Reverend Peter Marshall (1902-1949) was the chaplain of the United States Senate from January 4, 1947 until his sudden death on January 26, 1949. In 1948 he spoke the following prayer which, in my opinion, is quite an appropriate prayer for the truth-seeking community.
The original write-up in The Pittsburgh Press:
The Rev. Peter Marshall, chaplain of the United States Senate, has attracted much attention with his pungent prayers at the opening of the Senate’s daily sessions.
Here’s one of his recent invocations that might well have been for all of us:
“O God, our Father, let us not be content to wait and see what will happen, but give us the determination to make the right things happen.
“While time is running out, save us from patience which is akin to cowardice.
Give us the courage to be either hot or cold, to stand for something, lest we fall for anything.
“In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
